Surving a Basic Cold

So, I knew it would happen eventually, but I finally ended up getting a cold. At first I thought it was allergies, because I couldn't breathe, my throat was itchy, and my ears and head felt congested. But when I started loosing my voice, I knew it was otherwise. So, I thought I would share what medicine I used. I asked my mom for some advice, since she's a nurse. She told me I needed to find Benadryl. Well, in Japan, I think finding the actual brand is probably pretty tough, so we decided to look for an antihistamine. The stuff in Benadryl that helps to decongest is called diphenhydramine. Which, luckily, is an ingredient used in sleeping pills. So, after doing a little bit of online research, we decided that Drewell would be my best bet (thank you very much Below is a picture of the box. The medicine is an OTC that is sold in basically any health good store. I myself do that kind of shopping at Health and Communication (HAC). Drewell is sold as a sleeping aid, and will not be found in the headache, cold, etc. section. So just mosey your way to the sleeping pill section, and you should find it. It is a little pricey for ¥1050 and comes with 6, 25 mg tablets. I only took this at night, in 50 mg doses. And actually, by the end of night three, I was better, so I think I got my moneys worth.
During the day, since I was working, I basically survived on hot honey and lemon tea, and cough drops. I actually lost my voice by Friday night, but since Saturday was a national holiday, I was lucky enough to get a three day weekend to recover it. Again, it was mostly downing the tea, and forcing myself not to talk as much as possible. By the time I went back to work Tuesday, my voice was pretty much back in working order (thank goodness).

That's about all I have to say really today haha. But if you are in the Kanagawa area, it's currently Oktoberfest! I may or may not go, since I went to the one in May, and it's pretty expensive. But it you want some good German beer, and a good time, I recommend you check it out. It's located at Aka Renga (the Red Warehouses) in Minato Mirai. You can access it through JR or the Tokaido line.
